Sterling Aviation

Sterling Helicopters no longer provide any aircraft for the Police or Ambulance services within the East of England. The company suspended its flying activities in February 2011 due to "operational issues". To date these have not been resolved.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance contract with Sterling is now terminated and has been taken over (at least temporarily) by Bond Air Services, operating two MBB Bolkow BO105 helicopters, G-BUXS at Norwich Airport and G-NAAA at Cambridge Airport.

The Norfolk Police Air Support Unit was already due to close at the end of March 2011; cover is now provided from the Suffolk Police Air Support Unit based at RAF Wattisham, operating a Eurocopter EC135P2+ G-SUFK.

Formerly, Sterling provided 3 helicopters - these consisted of an Aerospatiale AS355 (G-BMTC) for Norfolk Police and 2 Eurocopter BK117 aircraft (G-OEMT & G-RESC) for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. Sterling continue to be based at Norwich Airport.
